A founding member of the National Patriotic Party Dr Arthur Kennedy has called for the arrest of the Ashanti region Chairman of the NPP Chairman Wontumi and the NPP’s woman organizer Kate Gyamfua.
Speaking in an interview with GH One TV, Dr. Arthur Kennedy accused the Ghana Police Service of being eager to arrest the young men and women who were protesting because they were blocking traffic but left the real culprits at home sipping champagne.
He said, “I think we have the wrong culprits in the dock, the real criminals are sitting at home sipping champagne while we are chasing those who are trying to do the right thing”.
Dr. Arthur Kennedy further stated, “We have gotten our priorities wrong the people who should be in the dock are the Aisha Huang’s, the Chinese who are destroying our environment, the Wontumi’s, the Adusei’s, Kate Gyamfua, and even politicians, all the DCEs who are getting concessions while our rivers get turns into milk those are the people who should be defendants, not the innocent people who are trying to do the right thing”.
Chairman Wontumi’s Akonta Mining Company Limited had been fingered for their illegal operations in the Nimri Tano Forest reserve in the Amenfi West Municipality of the Western Region.
Kate Gyamfua on the other hand has also been alleged to be involved in illegal mining with some officials of the Ghana Armed Forces burning about 10 excavators and other mining equipment of hers.
Meanwhile, a total of 21 Democracy Hub protesters have been granted bail with an appeal application being filled for the remaining 30 protesters in remand.
