Popular Ghanaian media personality and host of Angel FM’s morning show, Okatakyire Afrifa-Mensah, has called out veteran broadcaster Kwame Sefa Kayi. He labels Sefa Kayi a hypocrite accusing him of his biased stance on Galamsey.
According to Okatakyire, Sefa Kayi’s public advocacy against the destructive practice falls short because he fails to confront those truly responsible. He identified some as regular guests on his “Kokrokoo” show on Peace FM.
“I like Kwame Sefa Kayi, but the hypocrisy must stop. He knows the big names behind Galamsey who are on his show every morning, yet he never tells them to their face. He knows these people personally, and he has the platform to name them, but he doesn’t,” Okatakyire lashed out.
This comes on the backheel of the recent warnings from Sefa Kayi about the potential for Galamsey to create a rebel force in Ghana, as armed miners continue their operations unchecked.
However, Okatakyire argues that Sefa Kayi’s failure to call out the people behind the Galamsey crisis undermines his credibility.
“He hosts these people every morning. If he truly believes that Galamsey is bad, then he should be honest enough to confront those involved. Instead of generalizing, he should use his platform to hold them accountable,” Okatakyire added.
Meanwhile, Sefa Kayi had recently cautioned that the growing influence of armed illegal miners could threaten national security. He warned, “We are creating a rebel force out of this Galamsey issue. If these armed Galamseyers decide to block major roads, such as the Accra-Kumasi highway, it would be a serious security risk.”
