Social Media user, Tech In Twi, has dubbed President Akufo-Addo the worst Ghanaian to have ever lived.
This tag follows the numerous demonstrations ongoing in Ghana against illegal mining (galamsey) activities, but President Akufo-Addo fails to heed to calls by protestors.
Ghanaians have taken to the streets these past few weeks to demonstrate against illegal mining, calling for a complete ban on mining activities to save Ghana from ruin. Mining activities in the country have led to the destruction of water bodies and forest reserves. The country’s youth argue if immediate action is not taken, the country will fall into an environmental crisis.
President Akufo-Addo prior to be elected to power promised to end illegal mining, however, the illegality has grown under his watch.
Aside from the country’s youth, Civil Society Organizations, Organized Labour, Christian bodies and others have made calls to the president to ban mining, for the country to reclaim and heal from its devastating effects but all have fallen on the President Akufo-Addo’s ears.
The inaction by the President has left many in the country unsettled, as they believe he (Akufo-Addo) does not have the will power to place a ban on galamsey.
