President Akufo-Addo has built and unveiled for himself a statue at Effia Nkwanta in the Western Region while the economy and exchange rate keeps surging amidst the indecisive fight against illegal mining in the country.
The President who promised to put his presidency on the line in the fight against galamsey and also help restore the economy has yet again come under the criticism of his fellow Ghanaians with the unveiling of a statue. He unveiled the statue of himself during his “one-day Tour” of the Western Region. Meanwhile Western Region has a high pressing issue that the money used to build the statue could have been used to address it.
According to the Western Regional Minister, Kwame Okyere Darko, during the Unveiling ceremony, the statue w aver necessary as it celebrated the “unprecedented” achievement and developmental projects the President has brought to the region. He added that, the premises that ha the statue was highly renovated by President Akufo-Addo, hence the statue to remember him for that.
He emphasized that, President Akufo-Addo is deserving of the statue in the region, highlighting some great feats like the construction of a 3-tier Sinohydro interchange, and the redevelopment of the Takoradi Market Circle in addition to the renovation of the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital.
With the news fat spreading, Ghanaians have shared their opposing view, touting him of honoring and immortalisng himself ahea of the country’s collective recognition. Others are of the view that, it was not necessary while the dollar keeps running ahea of the Cedi.
