The Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) has withdrawn from contesting in the December 7, 2024 presidential race.
Their withdrawal comes a days after the death of its previous Flagbearer, Akua Donkor and the subsequent elevation of her running mate, Roman Fada as the next Presidential Candidate.
In a letter addressed to the Electoral Commission, dated November 5, 2024, the GFP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) cited the recent passing of their founder and presidential candidate, Madam Akua Donkor, as the primary reason for this decision.
The letter which was signed by GFP National Organizer Richard Botchway, expressed the party’s intention to honour the commitment and sacrifices of Madam Donkor, who was the driving force and sole candidate for the party.
“This decision, irrespective of how difficult it may be, has been reached to posthumously honour the commitment and sacrifices by our late Founder and Presidential Candidate,” the letter stated.
