Former executive director for Amnesty international, Robert Akoto Amoafo is calling on government to as a matter of urgency adhere to the concerns of citizens including organized labour to address the illegal mining menace.
According to him, president Akufo-Addo’s silence to their concerns is worrying.
On Thursday October 3,2024 thousands of youth gathered at okponglo to participate in the three days protest dubbed #FreeTheCitizens aimed at pushing for the release of 53 anti-galamsey protesters.
The demo also seeks to denounce illegal mining, known locally as galamsey, which has been a long-standing environmental and social issue in the country.
