About 150 youth from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem (KEEA) constituency of the Central Region have defected to the main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The defectors claim that their former party, the NPP, made numerous compelling promises during the 2016 and 2020 general elections, including the Free Senior High School policy, the construction of a national cathedral, the “One District, One Factory” initiative, the allocation of $1 million per constituency, controlling inflation, and the abolition of nuisance taxes, among others.
In the KEEA constituency, it was the youth who tirelessly campaigned door-to-door, office-to-office, market-to-market, and within places of worship to promote these messages.
However, nearly eight years later, they feel that only the Free Senior High School policy has been realized.
As they approach the 2024 elections, many feel ashamed, disappointed, and guilty about returning to the same voters under the NPP banner with yet another set of promises.
To avoid further embarrassment and disillusionment, they have chosen to join the NDC, believing the party has demonstrated promise and credibility in achieving its commitments within the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem constituency.
