Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has vowed to hold those responsible for the alleged repackaging and sharing of expired and contaminated rice to Senior High School students accountable.
The scandal, involving Lamens Africa Investment Limited and the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), allegedly saw rice from India repackaged and sent to schools despite being contaminated and expired.
Ablakwa revealed that a whistleblower led to an investigation by the FDA and Ashanti Regional Police in December 2023.
Despite clear evidence, Lamens Investments was fined GHS 100,000, with only half of the fine paid.
Speaking in an interview with Yawa News last night Ablakwa is demanding the immediate prosecution of the company’s directors and has called for the resignation or dismissal of NAFCO executives, including CEO Alhaji Hanan Abdul-Wahab and Board Chairman Henry Nana Boakye.
He also stated that the NDC caucus in Parliament will soon demand the immediate arrest of Lamens Africa Investment Limited directors involved in the expired rice scandal.
Pressing on the Ghana Police Service to act swiftly and hold those responsible accountable, while also calling for the resignation of implicated NAFCO executives.
