The joint task force ‘operation halt 2’ has arrested 9 persons suspected to be involved in illegal mining whilst destroying 23 changfang machines as it intensifies the fight against galamsey.
The action was taken during a raid of illegal mining sites by the joint military task force along the Ankobra River at Prestea Nakaba in the Western Region.
The task force also destroyed a number of mining equipment including 33 grinding machines, 27 water pumps, 23 changfans, and three changfan boards all in the Prestea Nakaba area.
Also in a separate operation, 17 mining illegal equipment along the River Pra were destroyed at Assin Asamang in the Central Region.
Meanwhile, in a related development, President Member for Weija Gbawe Municipal Assembly, Wilfred Blankson has urged government to take decisive steps to tackle the devastation of the Densu River.
