Frank Kwaku Appiah, widely known as Appiah Stadium, a devoted supporter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), recently shared the profound impact former President John Dramani Mahama had on his family.
In an emotional interview with Kumasi-based R TV Ghana, Appiah revealed how Mahama’s intervention was crucial in helping his wife overcome fertility struggles and even saved her life.
“If someone has done so much for me, there is nothing I wouldn’t do for them,” he expressed, reflecting his deep gratitude.
Previously a vocal critic of the Mills government as a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Appiah faced threats from some NDC members who sought to retaliate for his outspoken views.
He recounted a harrowing incident where a notorious gang member threatened him, and it was Mahama’s timely intervention that ultimately saved his life.
With tears in his eyes, Appiah shared, “John Mahama helped my wife to overcome fertility struggles and even paid for her medical bills.”
Appiah also detailed how Mahama supported him during a difficult period with the NPP.
His car was set on fire by a feared figure in Kumasi known as CD. After taking the case to court, he was disheartened when no one from the NPP testified on his behalf, leading him to relocate to Accra.
A pivotal moment came when Mahama reached out to Appiah to inquire about the price of his car.
Mahama later arranged for then Ashanti Regional Minister Samuel Sarpong to provide him with GHC90 million, far exceeding the car’s worth of GHC49 million.
This generous act of kindness inspired Appiah Stadium to openly support Mahama when the opportunity arose, stating, “Since meeting the former President, he has been a blessing to my family.”
