Forty (40) illegal miners escaped the claws of the anti-galamsey taskforce set-up by the Ghana National Associaiton of Small Scale Miners.
The taskforce stormed the Birim River upon receiving a tip of the activities of illegal miners on some parts of the river.
Upon reaching the site, the illegal miners, numbering of forty (40) dived into the Birim River, swimming across to escape arrest.
The taskforce however managed to arrest a Togolese national, and seized a number of mining equipment.
Over 20 chanfans used by the illegal miners were set ablaze.
The taskforce of the Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners has appealed to the public to be on the lookout for suspicious looking people.
