An arrested protester of the Democracy Hub has lamented about the inhumane conditions facing them in the Police cells.
One of the protesters who spoke to the media in cuffs and through the windows of a Police bus said, “Our leaders are very wicked, poisonous food to eat, they don’t give us fine food, 3 days kenkey, they feed us with 4 days kenkey to eat, 3 people 1 sardine to share, twice in a day, condemned food, even a dead person will not eat that food”.
Another protester was heard still protesting despite his current predicament he shouted reiterating their goal for the protest, “End galamsey now, what we are saying is end galamsey”.
On Tuesday, October 8, the Accra Circuit Court approved bail to 31 protesters after 21 others had earlier been approved bail by the Accra High Court on Monday.
Fifty-two Democracy Hub protesters have been granted bail, following their arrest during their protest on September 23.
Meanwhile, the lead convener of the group, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has once again been denied bail.
