As calls to end illegal mining, grow louder, former spokesperson for the New Force movement, Shalimar Abbiusi, has joined the chorus, urging the government to treat the issue as a national emergency.
A Belgian national recently repatriated from Ghana by the Immigration Service, Abbiusi took to social media to express her concerns.
In her impassioned plea, she stated, “Galamsey is killing people and making them sick.
It is destroying our country and everything that lives in our water bodies,” warning of the significant strain it poses on the healthcare system.
Reflecting on her own experience with the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), she recalled, “I remember when they took me to the BNI and said I was a national emergency.
But what is this? Why is nothing being done about these horrible practices while those responsible continue to walk free?”
