Kwesi Pratt, a veteran journalist and managing editor of the Insight Newspaper, has quizzed why trouble follows the former member of parliament for Awutu Senya, Hawa Koomson.
The veteran journalist noted that NPP and NDC members visited some polling stations during the Ablekuma North Parliamentary election re-run without any trouble.
Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokroko Morning show on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, Pratt stated, “Did you see Okoe Boye? Decent, he met the guys from the NDC and spoke to them nicely without any problem. Asiedu Nketiah went there and spoke to the NPP guys calmly without any trouble”.
“There are a lot of videos in which we could see gurus from both sides conversing nicely without any fight. Why does trouble follow this woman everywhere she goes?”. He questioned.
He added, “Guns are fired, some are killed, and others are badly injured. Why? Why can’t we just face the facts and speak about it?” … Okoe did not visit with pepper spray or gun, nor did he slap anybody, but made peace with everyone. Why! You did not see the pepper spray?”
However, Hawa Koomson has said she knows she is a threat to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to Hawa Koomson, wherever she goes, she carries something to protect herself in the form of self-defence.
Hawa Koomson is quoted by UTV to have stated, “I know I’m a threat to the NDC, which is why I take steps to protect myself wherever I go, as a form of self-defence”.
In Parliament
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, has fired shots at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Caucus in parliament.
According to Kwakye Ofosu, the NPP endorsed violence and is today calling for investigations into acts of violence.
He emphasised that those who condemned violence in the past and are doing so now are the ones to call for an investigation.
Kwakye Ofosu asserted that the NPP normalised electoral violence during their eight years in office.
The lawmaker further called on the NPP minority to demonstrate sincerity and consistency.
Speaking on the floor of parliament, Kwakye Ofosu stated, “A party that endorsed violence during elections cannot come today and call for investigations into acts of violence. It is those of us who condemned it in the past and are condemning it today who can make such a call.
“Their officials are on record as having vowed that there will be violence in Akwatia. Even as they call for action to be taken, they are threatening violence,” he stated.
The Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, also added, “I have experienced them in real violent situations in elections. The week before this last election, there were persistent gunshots in my constituency, and I couldn’t even come out of my house. Persistent, not what you people are doing. Not this child’s play at Ablekuma. This is children playing”.
