John Jinapor, the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, has revealed Ghana has maintained stable power for four straight months and is now exporting power to all neighbouring countries.
The Energy Minister detailed that the ENI plant and the Jubilee have increased their gas by 30mm and 20mm, respectively.
Speaking on the floor of parliament, John Jinapor stated, “I am happy to note that for the four months continuously, we have had a stable supply of power, we have stabilised the system and are now exporting power to all our neighbouring countries.”
He further detailed, “An additional supply of gas from Nigeria has been secured, the ENI plant has also increased its gas by 30mm, and Jubilee has also increased its gas by about 20mm.
We have secured funding, now we hope that we will have a consistent supply of fuel, particularly liquid fuel. We are also working with ECG to ensure that they adhered to the cash waterfall mechanism.
They are currently operating a single treasury account with GCB, where all these funds are accounted for. The ECG has also constituted a four-gun team to attend to outages”, he added.
Ghana’s reliable supply of power
Also, John Jinapor, speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, boldly stated that Ghana is now experiencing a reliable, uninterrupted supply of power.
According to John Jinapor, Ghana’s energy sector is indeed showing signs of stabilisation and improvement.
John Jinapor detailed, “We can confidently announce that this energy sector is indeed showing signs of stabilisation and improvement. This has been driven by ongoing reforms aimed at addressing both technical and financial challenges, as well as modernising infrastructure.”
“The persistent and erratic power outages that plagued the country when we assumed office at the beginning of the year have witnessed a remarkable improvement. We are now experiencing a much more reliable, uninterrupted supply of power, and you can attest to that fact,” he stated.
John Jinapor on ECG
John Jinapor, some days ago, reiterated that the government has no plans to sell the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
According to the Energy Minister, the government is seeking to reform the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) with private sector participation.
He added that ECG will remain publicly owned and that any private engagement is aimed solely at improving financial and service delivery.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, John Jinapor stated, “To ensure that we increase revenue and improve efficiency, the cabinet has approved private sector participation in ECG’s distribution network”.
“Let me put it on record again that we are not selling ECG. What we are seeking to do is involve the private sector, particularly in the billing and collection segment.”
“This is an investment opportunity for you. Get involved and help us bring about the change we want,” he added.
