Martin Kpebu, a private legal practitioner, has tackled former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, after he was fingered in the NPA scandal.
According to Martin Kpebu, he is shocked, the man who eight years ago said walahi Ghana needs to be rescued from the NDC received 24m directly in his hands.
Kpebu added that Mustapha Hamid should have known that he should be the last person to be caught like that, in a very cheap manner.
Speaking on TV3 Key Points, Martin Kpebu stated, “By all means, the OSP will have something up his sleeve that we don’t know about. Because we all know that it’s not a child’s play to lay criminal charges.
So, if they didn’t have the evidence, they wouldn’t do that. If you read the facts, you see that they say that about GH¢24 million went through Mustapha Hamid directly.
This means that they would be bringing the very persons who put that money in his hands. Because you would have no basis for saying he received GH¢24 million directly if you cannot adduce that evidence”.
He added, The total figure is GH¢280 million. They are saying that out of that figure, Mustapha Hamid – Walahi, Walahi, Walahi – received GH¢24 million directly in his hands. And so that means that they would be bringing the witnesses”.
“When we started hearing this through the grapevine, I was like, ‘Walahi, Walahi, Walahi, ’ man. Come on, about eight years ago, he said the NDC had run the country down, we need to rescue this country and shed tears. He should have known that he should be the last person to be caught like that – in a very cheap manner,” he added.
Martin Kpebu noted, “We are not saying he is guilty of a criminal offence; what I am saying is that there are facts that have shown that he has received money that is not his salary. He has received money that is not his fuel allowance.
24 million cedis for eight years, his salary will never amount to that amount of money. You know this things didn’t start today. Once again, thank you, people of Ghana, for the change. If we didn’t kick these guys out, do you think we would have gotten to some of these things? “.
His comments on the heels of Mustapha Hamid and 9 others being charged in a GHC280 million extortion and money laundering scheme at the NPA.
The OSP charged seven individuals and three companies in the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) GHC280m scandal.
The OSP charges stem from alleged fraud at the NPA between 2022 and December 2024.
Mustapha Hamid, Amuah, and Newman gas been alleged to have used their office to siphon GHC280,516,127.19 from petroleum transporters and oil marketing companies.
The former NPA CEO has been fingered as the mastermind and was executed by Amuah and Newman without any legal mandate.
Meanwhile, lawyers for the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Dr Mustapha Hamid, have refuted allegations levelled against their client.
According to the lawyers, their client denies the allegation levelled against him in the OSP GHS280 million extortion and money laundering scheme.
In a statement by Mr Hamid’s legal team, they stated, “Our client denies all the allegations against him contained in the said publication and press release. He is ready to contest all the allegations in court and defend his good name,” the statement read.
“Our client categorically denies initiating or being involved in any extortion scheme, either directly or indirectly. He further denies receiving any personal benefit from any such alleged extortion.”
