Manasseh Azure Awuni, an award-winning investigative journalist, has fired shots at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) after they sent several students home over indecent dressing.
According to Manasseh Azure, the UPSA sanity must be examined for rejecting students for wearing anklets, but happily hosts and whitewashes SML.
The “SML Scandal”, an exposé by The Fourth Estate, titled ‘The GH¢ 3 Billion Lie’, fingered the Ministry of Finance for awarding a $100 million contract to SML to monitor Upstream Petroleum Production and to audit the value chain of Minerals and Metals Resources.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor has, in the last weeks have been arresting persons in connection with the SML scandal investigation.
In a post on X, Manasseh Azure stated, “A university that rejects students wearing anklets but happily hosts and whitewashes SML must have its sanity examined”.
His comments come following the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) sending several students home over indecent dressing.
On Wednesday, July 2, the UPSA students were sent home by a task force.
According to reports, the move follows an earlier warning on June 30, 2025, warning students that the School authority would no longer tolerate inappropriate attire on campus.
Meanwhile, Students of the University of Professional Studies, Accra, have fired back at the school authority after several students were sent home over indecent dressing.
The UPSA move follows renewed efforts by the university to enforce its code of conduct among students.
After the action by the university authorities, tensions flared up following the sudden enforcement of the school’s dress code policy.
A UPSA student who spoke to the media stated, “A message was sent to us, I think, a week ago about the dress code. But to be honest, enforcement only begins when the Level 100 students resume. I’ve witnessed this trend. Anytime we’re on campus, they start enforcing it just to put fear in us.”
According to the student, UPSA’s policy designates Mondays for official wear, and quizzed why students were being forced to dress formally on a Wednesday.
“UPSA wears official attire on Monday. But this is a Wednesday, and you are pressuring us to wear any official wear, which is not right,” the student added.
