Oliver Barker-Vormawor, a private legal practitioner and social activist, has told the Office of the Special Prosecutor to tone down the drama.
His comments come after the OSP published mugshots of accused persons, Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, the former Chief Executive Officer of the NPA and 9 others.
The OSP also revealed that the suspect will be put before the Criminal Division 3 of the High Court on Wednesday, 23 July 2025.
Vormawor in a post on X wrote, “A suspect is under zero legal compulsion to pose for a photo or mugshot, and I would not under any circumstances allow my client to allow such a picture to be taken”.
He revealed that when former IGP Dampare decided to stop showing the faces of suspects, he publicly applauded him despite their obvious differences.
He added, “I will be a hypocrite to swallow my principles and not comment on this obscenity. I condemn this cheap publicity stunt of the OSP in the strongest terms. It violates the due process rights of accused persons”.
Vormawor further narrated his ordeal with the Ghana Police when he was arrested, “ When I was arrested during our #StopGalamsey protest, I was taken to the Commander’s office and my statement taken. During that whole time, I had no handcuffs on”.
I told them I don’t understand why I am being handcuffed, considering I turned myself in. In fact, I had called ahead to the Police to inform them that I was coming to turn myself in. We even agreed on a time for me to come”.
He added, “Anyway, I wasn’t in the mood to fight it. So I let them. Then they brought a camera out and insisted that I take my cap 🧢 off, and stand against the wall for a photo.
I said over my dead body. They started threatening and trying to forcibly remove my cap and take a picture of me. A huge verbal and physical altercation ensued.
I refused completely that I will never let that happen, and they would have to put me in chokehold to get that to happen. After so much back and forth, my sled and my lawyer
@JusticeSremSai giving them a good fight, and they finally gave up. I’m sure their social media team was really disappointed”.
