Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, has cautioned Members of Parliament (MPs) chasing the Ablekuma North MP Ewurabena Aubynn.
Speaker Bagbin, during the swearing-in of Ewurabena Aubynn, noted that some MPs were taking her telephone number.
He further warned them to stay informed that Ewurabena Aubynn was not in the market, so they should not attempt to make advances.
Bagbin of the floor of parliament stated, “The House is now blessed with a final member, a female, now increasing the number of women in the House to 41. If this is not a blessing, then what else is?”
“I saw some of you taking her telephone number. Please, Honourable Members, she is not in the market, so please don’t attempt,” Bagbin said, drawing laughter from the House.
Meanwhile, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin officially swore in Ewurabena Aubynn as the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North.

He further urged her to be punctual, ever present in Parliament, calm, listen and learn from your colleagues.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, July 22, Speaker Bagbin stated, “I will take this opportunity to congratulate you and also urge you to be punctual, ever present in Parliament, be calm, listen more, learn from your colleagues, but please read everything, and not only the Constitution and the Standing Orders”.
“You are now the hope of the people in the constituency. They are looking up to you to do something to improve their lives. It is a trust, and this I pray you don’t abuse,” he said.
He added, “Four years is just a day. You will go back to them, and they will assess you this time based on your performance. So please don’t be misled by other people.”
Ewurabena Aubynn was sworn in on Tuesday, 22 July 2025, despite the minority staging a walkout.
Speaker Bagbin denied the minority’s request to deliver a statement before the swearing-in of the MP.
Ewurabena Aubynn was sworn in after the Electoral Commission declared her the winner of the Ablekuma North seat after a rerun of some 19 polling stations.
The now Ablekuma MP secured a narrow victory with 34,090 votes, defeating the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Akua Afriyie, who acquired 33,881 votes.
