Salam Mustapha, the National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has revealed that the NPP has filed an interlocutory injunction in court to stop the Electoral Commission (EC) from organising a rerun of the 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency.

According to Salam Mustapha, EC doesn’t have the power to decide to rerun elections in selected polling stations.

Speaking on Channel One Newsroom, Salam Mustpha revealed, “We have filed an interlocutory injunction in court; it cannot be; the EC doesn’t have the power to decide to rerun elections in selected polling stations. If we allow this to go, it sets a dangerous precedent in our electoral system.

“That when a party realises that it is losing an election, it can come and destroy everything and press for a rerun in polling stations it feels and chooses. We can’t accept this; this is not democracy. The EC should go to court to get the court to order a rerun,” he stated.

Salam Mustapha has earlier stated that every election in Ghana will be chaotic if the Ablekuma North rerun stands.

According to Salam Mustapha, every election will be chaotic in Ghana because a party’s losing an election will just cause confusion and destroy everything if the Ablekuma North rerun stands.

He stated, “I can bet you that if this one stands, every election will be chaotic in this country because if we see that we are losing, we will just cause confusion and destroy everything.

They are teaching us a new method of running elections in this country. Our official position is that we are left with three polling stations. We will not accept any rerun,” he added.

“Electoral Commission has held on to its position for the past seven months. The official position of the EC when Bossman Asare went to Parliament was that there were three left to be collated. So, how come the commission’s position has changed when it is not even three weeks since the EC went to Parliament?” he questioned.

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana announced that it will conduct a rerun of the Parliamentary Election in 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North Constituency.

Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman of Operations at the EC, in a press release dated July 2, noted that the decision was reached following consultation between the NDC and the NPP on July 1, 2025.

The EC has decided to rerun the election in 19 of the 37 polling stations, citing that although the scanned results from these stations were approved by both party agents, they lacked verification by the Presiding Officers.

The rerun in Ablekuma North is scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025.
