Patrick Yaw Boamah, the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) restructuring is his priority, not his presidential ambition.

The lawmaker asserted that he is more than 40, and the laws of Ghana grant him the opportunity to contest the presidency, but the NPP cannot win a national election without restructuring the party.

Speaking during an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Patrick Boamah stated, “I am more than 40 years old. The laws of Ghana grant me the opportunity to contest the presidency if I am able to be elected as President, but that is currently not my priority. It is not my priority because even if I am elected as the candidate for the party to represent it, and we have not restructured the party, I will not win the national elections and come back with the same results.

It is about selfishness, but you should be concerned about the welfare of the younger generation now joining the party. If there is anyone who is 14 up to 18 years and desiring to be elected as polling station agents, we have to groom these individuals and allow them to campaign and generate that excitement at the base.”

He stressed, “We need as a Party to win back public confidence and their trust, so we will become more attractive to the Ghanaian people. We have a duty as a party to observe the performance of government and be strategic and hold the government to account, and examine their performance.”

Patrick Yaw Boamah, in an earlier interview, called on the former presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to intervene in the NPP’s growing turmoil.

According to Patrick Boamah, the NPP has produced two presidents who are still alive and must call the party to order.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV, Patrick Yaw Boamah stated, “This party has produced two presidents. We are fortunate to have two former presidents alive”.

“I am calling them to call for some action and order in the party because this party produced them. If we are going through this turmoil, we ask that they call people round the table and have a heart-to-heart chat with them”, he added.

Patrick Boamah also asserted that the NPP must fix the party before choosing a flagbearer.

He added, “I have stated on various platforms that I am against this approach of selecting a flagbearer when we haven’t fixed the party. We need to fix the party to make the party attractive again to be able to win a general election.”

“That is why I said we need a very organised and disciplined party to elect a president, not a flagbearer, because those declaring to be flagbearers and what have you—what are we standing on?” he questioned.
