Solomon Owusu, a leading member of the Movement for Change, has sarcastically stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are telling Ghanaians they should give them another opportunity to come and dig holes.
According to Solomon Owusu, Ghanaians must not allow the NPP to come back to office, as the $97 million spent to dig a hole for the National Cathedral is pathetic.
Speaking on TV3 Key Point, Solomon Owusu stated, “Go and see the roads that we pile on $97 million, the contractor between Amasaman and Nsawam is demanding $45 million, is that not the case we have used 97 million to sink a hole, is it not pathetic and this is a party that is telling you that we should give them an opportunity to come and lead us again.
So that they can come and dig holes, that will not happen, we must not allow it is pathetic.
But on the basis of the management letters alone, without any forensic audit it is enough to indict a lot of people. People must be lined up and prosecuted”, he added.
Solomon Owusu further added that the Clergymen involved in the National Cathedral project must be prosecuted.
He stated, “We must confront them. When we confront people, they say we should not touch the anointing. We will touch your annointing because this is how annointing is, then it is a very bad annointing.
We have to touch because some anointed are very bad. Who are the anointed? These are not Prophets. You are claiming that when we go to Rome, you will see that Cathedrals are people in Rome are sleeping on their bellies to go to school or to write”.
His comments come on the back of Felix Kwakye, who yesterday, July 18, revealed that documents show Ghana owes the National Cathedral contractor an additional $39 million, raising the total project cost to $97 million, far above the widely cited $58 million.
The Minister of State in Charge of Communication, addressing the media on Friday, July 18, 2025, stated, “Contrary to the widely held view that total payments and contributions to the National Cathedral project amount to $58 million, there is actually an additional outstanding payment of $39 million to the contractor.
When added, this brings the total cost incurred so far for the hole that sits at the site of the project to $97 million”.
Meanwhile, Kofi Bentil, the Vice President of IMANI Africa, has stated that history will show Clergymen caused Ghana $97 million and left a hole.
The IMANI vice president detailed that the Clergymen will never be forgotten and will never be forgiven, as history will show they supported wrong in the name of God and caused Ghana almost $100 million.
According to Kofi Bentil, he does not doubt that some of the Reverend Ministers were not corrupt and still respect them.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, July 19, Kofi Bentil, “We have great respect for our Reverend Ministers, but we said it before time. We said do not lend your bible, your customs, and scholars to these politicians who are embarking on an ill-faithed and godless journey, we said it will cause problems. I don’t have a doubt that some of the Reverend Ministers were not corrupt, I still respect them”.
“But for lending themselves to this, for not speaking truth to power, and not standing for what I believe they knew was not exactly right, they will never be forgotten, they will never be forgiven, history will show that at a point like this, they supported wrong this in the name of God and caused this country almost $100 million, broke down building and left with holes,” he lamented.
