The NPP primaries are heating up with the main front runners for the NPP’s flagbearer position, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Minister for Agriculture Bryan Acheampong, and former Minister for Education Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum.

Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, a former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is expected to enter the NPP’s flagbearership race. Abronye has also hinted at his desire to enter the race.

In a related NPP news, a survey by the Global Info Analytics’ Musah Dankwa reveals the former vice president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, is leading the former Assin Central lawmaker Ken Agyapong in his backyard.

The survey by the Global Info Analytics shows, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is favoured by NPP members in Assin Central than their former member of parliament.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the poll is leading with 68.5% of support, while Kennedy Agyapong has 30.1%.

In the Central region, the survey findings show Dr. Bawumia leading with 48% while Kennedy Agyapong trails behind at 40%.

Also, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia leads Kennedy Agyapong in key constituencies like Mfantseman, Ekumfi, Upper Denkyira West, Cape Coast North, Agona East and Agona West.

The Global Info Analytics survey clearly shows Kennedy Agyapong is losing grip of his home region while Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is showing his dominance.

However, another survey conducted by the Africa Policy Lens Survey revealed that 70.6% of NPP members preferred Dr Bawumia ahead of the NPP presidential primaries on January 31, 2026.

The analysis by Africa Policy Lens unveiled significant insights regarding the preferences of supporters within the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and their views on potential flagbearers for the next general elections in 2028.

The report indicates that former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia remains the frontrunner among NPP supporters for the party’s presidential candidacy in 2028.

Africa Policy Lens Survey is quoted by GHONE TV to have stated, “70.6% of NPP members prefer Bawumia as presidential candidate”.

Meanwhile, Kwame Jantuah, a leading member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), has boldly stated that the former vice president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, will be the winner of the NPP flagbearer race.

According to Kwame Jantuah, the other candidates in the NPP flagbearer race are just wasting their money.

He noted that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is the most marketed person in the NPP today.

Speaking on Key Points on TV3 Saturday, July 19, Kwame Jantuah stated, “Dr Bawumia is going to win this particular election. All the rest are going to waste their money. He is the most marketed person in the NPP today; the only catch is that he doesn’t suffer from Akufo-Addo’s failure.

“The NPP at this point needs to build unity in their party and confidence with the people that what happened in the last 8 years will not be repeated,” he added.
