The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has stated that they will go to court to stop the Electoral Commission (EC) from conducting a rerun of the Ablekuma North Constituency election.

According to the NPP, the EC lacks the legal basis to call for a rerun in only selected polling stations.

Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on July 3, the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong, stated, “The NDC knows that they lost the election. We are in the NPP, shall stop at nothing in our quest to ensure that the power that has been respected and upheld by the democratic rights and sovereign will of the people of Ablekuma North, as expressed by them on December 7, 2024, is upheld.

Therefore, we have caused our legal directorate to challenge the directive in court. We shall file in court and challenge the whimsical, capricious directive by the EC”, he added.

However, the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Mustapha Gbande, has boldly stated that the NDC is ready to turn to the polls in the Ablekuma North Constituency.

According to Mustapha Gbande, a competent student shouldn’t be afraid to rewrite if the results are cancelled.

Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News on Wednesday, Mustapha Gbande stated, “The NDC believes that our candidate Ewurabena Aubynn is capable, competent, and well fit for that purpose”.

“On December 7, the people of Ablekuma North, based on voting patterns, contemplated making her their MP — as opposed to an individual who is only good at twerking on campaign platforms and has been alleged in visa racketeering.”

He added, “You can’t impose that candidate on a constituency,” he said. “Every single step advanced by the NPP after December 7, leading to the indiscriminate walkout by the Minority in parliament, to any action they have undertaken so far is an indication that they want to illegally impose on the people of Ablekuma North.”

“If you’re a competent student and the examiner cancels your results, you shouldn’t be afraid to go back and rewrite. The NDC will return to the people of Ablekuma North, plead with them in one accord, and seek their mandate again. We believe that in those 19 polling stations, they will vote to make up the difference.”

“Ablekuma North is one of the seats the NPP sought to use the EC to steal from the NDC. We’re simply going back to do what the law requires us to do,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has revealed that it will conduct a rerun of the Parliamentary Election in 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North Constituency.

Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman of Operations at the EC, in a press release dated July 2, noted that the decision was reached following consultation between the NDC and the NPP on July 1, 2025.

The EC has decided to rerun the election in 19 of the 37 polling stations, citing that although the scanned results from these stations were approved by both party agents, they lacked verification by the Presiding Officers.

The rerun in Ablekuma North is scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025.
