Banahene Agyekum, a journalist with GH One Television, who was assaulted by a police officer during the ongoing re-run of the parliamentary elections in Ablekuma North, has broken his silence.
The GHOne journalist lamented that he now fears for his safety after he was slapped by the police officer.
Reports gathered suggest the incident happened at the Church of Pentecost, North Odorkor Polling 2 Station.
According to Banahene Agyekum, his eyes are shaking following the slap.
Speaking to the media, Banahene Agyekum stated, “I feel threatened because we were complaining about media freedom, and now what has happened is that an officer, not a layman, has slapped a journalist.
“That means he has taken an interest in whatever we are doing… My eyes are currently shaking. I don’t know what will happen to me.”
Banahene Agyekum further described the officer’s actions as a threat to press freedom, questioning the professionalism of law enforcement.
Michael Kpakpo Allotey, the Mayor of Accra, revealed he witnessed the incident and called for the said Police officer to be replaced because he has a hot temper.
Abraham Amaliba, a legal practitioner, has called for the Inspector General of Police to withdraw the officer.
The Ghana Police Service has since interdicted the police officer seen in a viral video slapping a Journalist.
