The NPP minority in parliament are demanding urgent answers from the Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, over the recent killings in Ghana.
According to the Minority, Muntaka Mubarak must address parliament on measures being put in place in response to the growing wave of suspected killings.
Speaking on the floor of parliament, Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh stated, “ It is very sad today, our colleague related a sad matter – killings of innocent citizens – and Speaker, I say this with a heavy heart”.
“We have been reading news of people going missing, and the next day or two, their bodies are found. We’ve read a number of them. I can cite them, but it is a national security matter, and I need to be cautious how I relate to it.”
Frank Annoh-Dompreh further invoked Order 60 of the Standing Orders of Parliament, demanding an immediate and closed-door engagement with the minister.
He added, “So now I want to come under Order 60 and pray that we invite the Minister for Interior and the national security not to meet us at plenary. You should meet us at close seating.”
“Even yesterday, we had two killings again, in the Ashanti region. Even today, it has happened again. Then we can have a closed session for him to brief us. We may also have some good suggestions.”
Annoh Dompreh further stated, “We are representing various constituencies, and Members of Parliament may be carrying unique and diverse information which could be made available to aid the work and operation of the Minister.”
“So I think this is a matter. We can’t, as a people’s representatives, we can’t cross over. And I pray that the Speaker invites the Interior Minister to meet colleagues at a closed sitting.”
In a post on X, Annoh Dompreh wrote, “These & many more happenings should let the interior minister and, for that matter, the national security of our country rise up beyond the normal business as usual.. This is not looking NORMAL…Deep, deep condolences to the families…”
His comments come on the back of recent killings and kidnappings happening across the country.
It will be recalled that the burnt body of Stephen King Amoah, a Ghana Immigration Service officer, who was reported missing under mysterious circumstances since Thursday, July 3, 2025, was found at Abuom Junction near Kwabenya in the Greater Accra region.
In addition to the recent killings, reports emerged that on Saturday night, July 26, a deadly shooting occurred at the Nalerigu Senior High School campus, resulting in the deaths of two students.
At the Bawku SHS campus, a student was also shot dead in a targeted attack.
Also, Abdul-Malik Azenbe, the Kusasi Chief of the Ashanti Region and Chief of the Kadi Divisional Area in Binduri, was shot and killed by a mystery gunman on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
Meanwhile, in Asawase, another man has been shot just days after the Kusasi Chief’s murder.
The information gathered suggests the man was shot by the two assailants on a motorbike.
