Dr Omane Boamah, the Defence Minister, has stated that the military will not be deployed to the Ablekuma North constituency.
The Defence Minister emphasised that the Police are trained to handle electoral security.
In a post shared on social media, Dr Omane Boamah revealed, “To ensure a peaceful and democratic process, the Ghana Police Service will be fully in charge of security for today’s elections in Ablekuma North Constituency.
Let’s keep the peace and make our voices heard as John Dramani Mahama resets Ghana and creates more opportunities for Ghanaians”.
“Let’s learn from past experiences (Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence, killing of 8 Ghanaians during elections 2020, among others) and prioritise citizen safety and security”, he added.
Meanwhile, Dr Bossman Asare, Deputy Chairman of the EC in charge of Corporate Services, has stated that the Ablekuma North constituency rerun election is crucial.
According to Bossman Asare, the Electoral Commission is prepared to bring an end to the disputed Ablekuma North election today, Friday, July 11.
Speaking to the media ahead of the polls in Accra on Thursday, July 10, Dr. Bossman Asare noted that the electoral management body is desirous of bringing the election in the Ablekuma North constituency to a conclusion.
The EC further assured Ghanaians of a credible election by living up to their motto and ensuring that the rerun is fair, transparent, and credible.
Dr. Bossman Asare concluded by wishing the two candidates from the NPP and NDC success at the polls.
A win for the NDC will mean flipping a historically NPP-leaning seat, while a win for the NPP will underscore that all is not yet lost for the NPP, as they still maintain their grassroots support.
