Joyce Bawah Mogtari, the Special Advisor and aide to former President John Dramani Mahama, has heaped praise on the president following his move to cut fuel allowance for appointees.
According to Joyce Bawah Mogtari, President John Dramani Mahama is seriously protecting the public purse.
Madam Bawah revealed that the Energy Minister, John Jinapor, will speak to Ghanaians very soon about the figures regarding the scrapping of the fuel allowance.
In a post on her social media page, she wrote, “ This is very refreshing news, scrapping fuel allowances and allocations to government appointees, scrapping DSTV and other small amenities is how we build a more equitable society.
The President is seriously protecting the public purse. The Energy Minister will speak to the figures when he takes his turn on the government’s #AccountabilitySeries.
I still remember the humongous budget for the Office of Government Machinery (OGM) under @NAkufoAddo
Let’s build the Ghana we all want together”.
Her comments come on the back of President John Dramani Mahama scrapping fuel allowance to government appointees.
In a statement signed by the spokesperson to the president, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the directive takes immediate effect.
According to Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the directive is part of the Mahama-led government’s broader plans to curb expenditure aimed at cutting costs and channelling public funds into priority areas.
Felix Kwakye’s statement read, “President John Dramani Mahama has, effective immediately, directed the cancellation of payment of fuel allowances and allocation of fuel to all political appointees”.
The directive forms part of a broader curb in government expenditure aimed at cutting costs and channelling public funds into priority areas”.
The Mahama government’s latest cost-cutting measure follows the reductions in the size of government through the appointment of fewer Ministers and Presidential Office staff.
