Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, an NPP flagbearer hopeful, has said he is not petty as he campaigned for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia despite running mate snub.

Adutwum noted that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia had the choice to choose whoever he wanted as his running mate.

According to Adutwum, Bawumia’s decision was his judgment call, and it wasn’t his judgment.

He further debunked rumours that he holds a grudge over Bawumia’s running mate snub.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV, Adutwum stated, “No, if I were angry, I wouldn’t have gone to campaign for Bawumia. Nobody campaigned for him more than me”.

“Go and look at the campaign we mounted, go to what we did talking about Bawumia’s vision for education. Who was able to get the national media at my own expense to capture Bawumia’s vision for Ghana? I’m not petty.”

He added, “He chose whoever he wanted; that was his judgment call. It wasn’t my judgment. This time, I’m saying it’s me representing myself. I’m not waiting for somebody to choose or not to choose”.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia selected Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh to serve as his running mate for the 2024 elections.

After the declaration of Matthew Opoku Prempeh rumour ignited that Adutwum was upset with Bawumia’s snub.

Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, in a video on 18 June, has since officially declared his intention by saying, “Eight years ago, I served as Deputy Minister and later as Minister for Education. During that period and beyond, I received countless praises from Ghanaians who appreciated the strides we made in the education sector”

“While in California, I had the opportunity to open schools and was recently honoured for my service. It was then that President Akufo-Addo invited me to come back home and contribute to the national agenda,” he added.

He declared, “As the party opens nominations for the flagbearership, I wish to announce that I will contest”

“I know you have faith in me, and I will not disappoint you. All is not lost; the future of Ghana is in our hands,” he said.

Meanwhile, the National Coordinator of the District Roads Improvement Programme (DRIP), Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has boldly told the former Education Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, that his record as Education Minister won’t earn him the NPP flagbearer slot.

According to Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, Adutwum’s performance as education minister was 50-50.

He asserted that there are things Adutwum did right, but there are also a lot of things he did wrong.
