Kofi Bentil, the vice president of policy think tank IMANI Africa, has told the Jean Mensa-led Electoral Commission to resign.

According to Kofi Bentil, the Electoral Commission under Jean Mensa is not credible and is not competent.

He further called on the leadership of the Electoral Commission to resign as they do not know their job.

Speaking on JoyNews, on Saturday, July 5, 2025, Kofi Bentil stated, “This one group is not credible, they are not competent. They should go. And I said, they should resign. That’s the easiest way. If you don’t know your job, leave it. But if they don’t resign, they should be removed”.

Kofi Bentil further shockingly stated that  SHS students could have resolved the issue surrounding the Ablekuma North election more effectively than the EC has done.

“If you assemble the facts of Ablekuma North and call five SHS students and assemble the facts, they will unanimously tell you that the EC is at fault, and this is a matter of incompetence,” he added.

His comment comes on the back of the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana announcing that it will conduct a rerun of the Parliamentary Election in 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North Constituency.

Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman of Operations at the EC, in a press release dated July 2, noted that the decision was reached following consultation between the NDC and the NPP on July 1, 2025.

The EC has decided to rerun the election in 19 of the 37 polling stations, citing that although the scanned results from these stations were approved by both party agents, they lacked verification by the Presiding Officers.

The rerun in Ablekuma North is scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025.

The EC top officials are made up of Jean Mensa (Chairperson), Samuel Tettey (Deputy Chairman for Operations), Dr Bossman Eric Asare (Deputy Chairman for Corporate Services), Adwoa Asuama Abrefa (Commissioner), Salima Ahmed Tijani, Dr Peter Appiahene, and Rev Akua Ofori Boateng.
