A viral video of Ernest Kumi’s last interview on Adom TV, recorded on Friday, July 4, 2025, has surfaced following his passing.
In the viral video, the late lawmaker was captured firing shots at the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the EC’s decision to re-run some 19 polling stations in Ablekuma North Constituency.
Speaking on Adom TV, Ernest Kumi stated, “What is wrong? Why are we conceding to this? Must the NDC necessarily win all the seats in Parliament?”
“If the NPP would listen to me, if it were up to me, just as we did in 1992, we should leave all the seats for them; all of us should vacate Parliament and let them take every seat,” he said.
He added, “Look at what they are doing to the rest of us. Look at the fight I have fought to get here. Look at what they are putting these women through. A boycott could have even been better.”
Ernest Kumi was serving as a first-term member of parliament after his victory in the 2024 elections.
He secured the seat for the NPP in a closely contested election marked by allegations of vote buying, irregularities at some polling stations, with his victory ending up in the court.
The lawmaker’s death comes just weeks after the Supreme Court overturned his contempt conviction related to the disputed 2024 parliamentary election results.
The late Ernest Kumi, in February 2025, was found guilty by the Koforidua High Court after he defied an interim injunction barring him from presenting himself for swearing-in as an MP.
The Koforidua High Court issued a bench warrant for his arrest, alluding to his failure to attend court hearings and his disregard for the court’s authority.
