John Jinapor, the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, has boldly stated that Ghana is now experiencing a reliable, uninterrupted supply of power.
According to John Jinapor, Ghana’s energy sector is indeed showing signs of stabilisation and improvement.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, John Jinapor detailed, “We can confidently announce that this energy sector is indeed showing signs of stabilisation and improvement. This has been driven by ongoing reforms aimed at addressing both technical and financial challenges, as well as modernising infrastructure.”
“The persistent and erratic power outages that plagued the country when we assumed office at the beginning of the year have witnessed a remarkable improvement. We are now experiencing a much more reliable, uninterrupted supply of power, and you can attest to that fact,” he stated.
John Jinapor further reiterated that the government has no plans to sell the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
According to the Energy Minister, the government is seeking to reform the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) with private sector participation.
He added that ECG will remain publicly owned and that any private engagement is aimed solely at improving financial and service delivery.
John Jinapor stated, “To ensure that we increase revenue and improve efficiency, the cabinet has approved private sector participation in ECG’s distribution network”.
“Let me put it on record again that we are not selling ECG. What we are seeking to do is involve the private sector, particularly in the billing and collection segment.”
“This is an investment opportunity for you. Get involved and help us bring about the change we want,” he added.
The Energy Minister further revealed that the government will roll out 23,500 solar streetlights to cut grid load by 300MW.
