Maxwell Kofi Jumah, the former GIHOC Distilleries Managing Director, has been granted bail in the sum of GHS500,000 with two sureties, following his arrest in connection with the alleged theft of company vehicles.
He was granted bail on Monday, June 30, after he made an appearance at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters, where he had been held.
Kofi Jumah was moved to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service in Accra after he was picked up by the National Security operatives from his Kumasi residence on Sunday, June 29, 2025.
The information gathered suggests, Maxwell Kofi Jumah was picked while celebrating his birthday at a private residence in Kumasi.
Kofi Jumah is now in custody and assisting with investigations.
According to reports, the raid on Kofi Jumah’s home occurred in the early morning of Thursday, May 15, 2025.
The information gathered is that the former GIHOC boss is currently under investigation for alleged financial illegality during his tenure, as well as the acquisition of state vehicles and the mismanagement of company assets.
On August 1, 2019, a letter from the Board of Directors of GIHOC approved Mr. Jumah’s purchase of a Genesis G90 saloon car (registration number GE 86 22-19), following his Conditions of Service as Managing Director.
The vehicle valued at over $100,000 was sold to him shockingly for just 5% of its value, GHS 4,943.11. A letter signed by the company’s Secretary and Head of Administration, Apea Twumasi-Ankrah, confirmed it.
Reports suggest an independent valuation conducted by the State Transport Corporation placed the car’s value at GHS 98,862.00. The assessment was completed by Daniel K. Orhin, with certification number 0014073.
Also, Kofi Jumah is being investigated for allegedly retaining two additional official vehicles, including an Audi valued at over $60,000.
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) boss yesterday revealed that three cars have been retrieved from the former GIHOC boss, Kofi Jumah.
However, the lawyer for former GIHOC Distilleries Managing Director, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, Akwasi Owusu Fordjour, has dismissed claims that his client stole state-owned vehicles.
According to the Lawyer of the ex-GIHOC Boss, two alleged stolen vehicles belong to Kofi Jumah.
Speaking on Channel One Newsroom on Monday, June 30, Akwasi Owusu Fordjour stated, “Two of the vehicles belong to Maxwell Kofi Jumah, and they are not state vehicles. These vehicles are in his name. He procured them through legal means, and we have documents to support those claims.
The other one is in the name of GIHOC; however, per his conditions of service, he could have triggered Clause XII of his conditions of service in obtaining that, but Toyota Tekoa has been in possession of GIHOC for about a month or two now”.
“What was in his custody was a Hyundai Genesis and an Audi, which is a salvaged vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the premises of GIHOC this morning by my very good self and the Police CID.
That vehicle has not been on the road for eight good years. So there is more to it, so I am sure after investigations, we can speak properly to it,” he stated.
