Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, a former Majority Leader in Parliament, has subtly fired Kennedy Agyapong, a NPP flagbearer hopeful.
According to Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, NPP members must not be deceived by fancy talkers.
Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on July 21, 2025, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu stated, “Action speaks louder than words… Don’t be deceived by fancy talkers”.
When asked whether his remarks were directed at Kennedy Agyapong, he stated, “I have not said so. I’m just playing back the music of Jimmy Cliff to us.”
He added, If you are talking about the grassroots, I am a grassroots man. I started this party in 1992. I represent the grassroots as well. If I were disconnected from my grassroots at Suame, I could not have on seven consecutive occasions be their representative. I am a grassroots person”.
Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, however, acknowledged that Ken Agyapong might possess a connection with the grassroots.
He added“I don’t dispute the fact that he may also have his own connection with the grassroots. After all, he also contested six times. When he left, he surrendered the seat to the NDC; when I left, I maintained the seat for the NPP.
“So, in terms of grassroots connection, don’t let us overhype our strength. Don’t let anybody over-exaggerate his strength,” he said.
Kennedy Agyapong has always touted himself as a grassroots man.
Before the NPP’s delegates’ conference, he called on the NPP delegates to listen to the grassroots and give them their choice of a candidate.
Speaking in a viral video, Kennedy Agyapong stated, “Good morning, NPP delegates, I take this opportunity to welcome all of you to Accra for the NPP delegates’ conference. I am pleading with you to take the right decision that reflects the views of Ghanaians and the delegates, especially the grassroots.
They are the voice of the people, and we should listen to them. If they want a victory for us, then we should give them their choice.
I am pleading with all the delegates to make the right decision to help this party win the 2028 elections”, he added.
