According to Michael Kwasi Addo, the excessive force used by the operatives in effecting the arrest is unnecessary.

He noted that the former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited’s Kofi Jumah age must be considered.

Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, Michael Kwasi Addo stated, “I believe the way we are going about things in the country; we have to be careful.

Well, we are not saying anything bad should happen, but when we are doing some of these things excessively, we have to look into the future. What kind of democracy are we building? If you were in that shoe, would you want the same thing to be done to you?

“If the man has done anything wrong, at least consider his age. And I appreciate the fact that yesterday at the police headquarters, they were able to process his bail conditions so that he goes home faster. Because I think they appreciated his frail situation and decided to let him go,” he said.

His comments come on the back of Maxwell Kofi Jumah being granted bail in the sum of GHS500,000 with two sureties, following his arrest in connection with the alleged theft of company vehicles.

He was granted bail on Monday, June 30, after he made an appearance at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters, where he had been held.

Kofi Jumah was moved to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service in Accra after he was picked up by the National Security operatives from his Kumasi residence on Sunday, June 29, 2025.

The information gathered suggests, Maxwell Kofi Jumah was picked while celebrating his birthday at a private residence in Kumasi.

Kofi Jumah is now in custody and assisting with investigations.

According to reports, the raid on Kofi Jumah’s home occurred in the early morning of  Thursday, May 15, 2025.

The information gathered is that the former GIHOC boss is currently under investigation for alleged financial illegality during his tenure, as well as the acquisition of state vehicles and the mismanagement of company assets.

On August 1, 2019, a letter from the Board of Directors of GIHOC approved Mr. Jumah’s purchase of a Genesis G90 saloon car (registration number GE 86 22-19), following his Conditions of Service as Managing Director.

The vehicle valued at over $100,000 was sold to him shockingly for just 5% of its value, GHS 4,943.11. A letter signed by the company’s Secretary and Head of Administration, Apea Twumasi-Ankrah, confirmed it.

Reports suggest an independent valuation conducted by the State Transport Corporation placed the car’s value at GHS 98,862.00. The assessment was completed by Daniel K. Orhin, with certification number 0014073.

Also, Kofi Jumah is being investigated for allegedly retaining two additional official vehicles, including an Audi valued at over $60,000.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) boss yesterday revealed that three cars have been retrieved from the former GIHOC boss, Kofi Jumah.

However, the lawyer for former GIHOC Distilleries Managing Director, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, Akwasi Owusu Fordjour, has dismissed claims that his client stole state-owned vehicles.

According to the  Lawyer of the ex-GIHOC Boss, two alleged stolen vehicles belong to Kofi Jumah.
