Reports circulating on social media suggesting that Rosemond Obeng, a former aide to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has been appointed a Senior Presidential Staffer by President John Mahama are false, according to credible sources at the Flagstaff House.
Insiders familiar with the situation have confirmed to our newsroom that Rosemond Obeng has rather been appointed as an aide to the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, and not to the Office of the President as earlier speculated.
News of her purported appointment as a senior official at the Presidency sparked widespread reactions within the National Democratic Congress (NDC), with many party faithful questioning the rationale behind such a move. Several grassroots members expressed outrage, pointing to Obeng’s previous role in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and her open criticisms of President Mahama and the NDC.
Some within the party described the development as a betrayal, arguing that an individual who had once launched scathing attacks on the party and its leadership should not be offered such proximity to government power. Others feared that her inclusion could potentially compromise the party’s internal cohesion, labeling her a possible mole.
“This is not just about forgiveness or political maturity,” one NDC activist told us. “It’s about safeguarding the trust and loyalty that the grassroots have in our government. We can’t reward betrayal with access to power.”
The backlash has raised concerns about the political implications of the appointment. Some observers believe the decision may erode a portion of the goodwill the Mahama administration currently enjoys, especially among the party base.
Rosemond Obeng is still believed by some to maintain strong ties with the NPP, further deepening suspicions about her intentions and allegiance.
As the dust settles, it remains to be seen whether the Minister of State or the Presidency will issue an official clarification to calm tensions within the ruling party
