Edem Agbana, the member of parliament for Ketu North, has warned men of God involved in the $97million National Cathedral hole.
The lawmaker confidently stated that being a man of God won’t save the clergy from the law when the forensic audit on the National Cathedral is done, and people need to answer questions.
Edem Agbana on NewsFile is quoted to have stating, “When the forensic audit is done and people need to answer questions, being a man of God won’t save you from the law”.
Kofi Bentil, the Vice President of IMANI Africa, on the same show, has stated that history will show Clergymen caused Ghana $97 million and left a hole.
The IMANI vice president detailed that the Clergymen will never be forgotten and will never be forgiven, as history will show they supported wrong in the name of God and caused Ghana almost $100 million.
According to Kofi Bentil, he does not doubt that some of the Reverend Ministers were not corrupt and still respect them.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, July 19, Kofi Bentil, “We have great respect for our Reverend Ministers, but we said it before time. We said do not lend your bible, your customs, and scholars to these politicians who are embarking on an ill-faithed and godless journey, we said it will cause problems. I don’t have a doubt that some of the Reverend Ministers were not corrupt, I still respect them”.
“But for lending themselves to this, for not speaking truth to power, and not standing for what I believe they knew was not exactly right, they will never be forgotten, they will never be forgiven, history will show that at a point like this, they supported wrong this in the name of God and caused this country almost $100 million, broke down building and left with holes,” he lamented.
Their comments come on the back of Felix Kwakye, who yesterday, July 18, revealed that documents show Ghana owes the National Cathedral contractor an additional $39 million, raising the total project cost to $97 million, far above the widely cited $58 million.
The Minister of State in Charge of Communication, addressing the media on Friday, July 18, 2025, stated, “Contrary to the widely held view that total payments and contributions to the National Cathedral project amount to $58 million, there is actually an additional outstanding payment of $39 million to the contractor.
When added, this brings the total cost incurred so far for the hole that sits at the site of the project to $97 million”.
