Private Legal Practitioner and a leading member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Kwame Jantuah, has said all NPP aspirants should have been given the chance to speak at the Delegates Conference.

The NPP held its National Delegates Conference on Saturday, July 19, with only Dr Mahamudu Bawumia being the only aspirant allowed to speak to the delegates.

Kwame Jantuah is quoted by GHONE TV to have said, “I think all NPP aspirants should have been given the chance to speak at the Delegates”.

Kwasi Kwarteng, the spokesperson of the Kennedy Agyapong team, suggested that former vice president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, was given exclusive access to the stadium’s inner perimeter, a skewed and engineered impression of massive support.

Kwasi Kwarteng is quoted by JOY NEWS to have stated, “Dr Bawumia’s exclusive access to the stadium’s inner perimeter is a skewed and engineered impression of massive support”.

However, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the former spokesperson for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team for the 2024 election, has fired shots at the Kennedy Agyapong team.

Miracles Aboagye debunked Kwasi Kwarteng’s claims of Bawumia being raised above other flagbearer hopefuls during the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Delegates Conference.

Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News on Monday, July 21, Dennis Miracles Aboagye stated, “I think it is a sad situation. It is sad that anytime the party is taking its shine and taking its glory, we will have such issues coming up and basically robbing the party of its shine. I mean, this is completely unfounded. Where is this coming from?”

“Everybody at the stadium and all those who were watching on TV acknowledged the beauty of the occasion. First of all, Saturday had nothing to do with contestants. There was no single individual at the venue on Saturday who was more important than the party NPP. It was all about NPP on Saturday.”

He further added, “I think it is quite unfair on the party that after such a successful event, we have to be saddled with this conversation. It is high time Kwesi Kwarteng and co stop this. It is unfair to the party. Basically, they are robbing the party of its shine.”

Meanwhile, Justin Kodua, the NPP’s General Secretary, has cried out that the party has become so polarised.

Justin Kodua revealed that members of the NPP  no longer examine issues based on the substance but rather based on their benefits and the camps they belong to.

Speaking on Accra-based Asempa FM, Justin Kodua stated, “The party has become so polarised that when you say something, people do not look at the substance but rather focus on what is in their interest.

If we don’t remain focused and follow such people, we will be distracted. They may say we are weak, but that is not the case; we choose to ignore some of these people. So hopefully, if we are able to vote for a flagbearer, then firm decisions can be taken in the political party,” he said.

He added, “People must learn to respect the party. Is the position for someone? You to become a flagbearer, but the very body you’ll use to become a flagbearer, you want to undermine it.

You want to become a party leader, but you disrespect the ones who are currently there? That must stop”.
