Kwame Jantuah, a leading member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), has boldly stated that former president Akufo-Addo must answer questions on how 97million was spent on the National Cathedral.
According to Kwame Jantuah, the National Cathedral project caused financial loss to the state.
Speaking on Key Points on TV3 Saturday, July 19, Kwame Jantuah stated, “Call Former President Akufo-Addo and question him on the National Cathedral issues. Something should be done, and we shouldn’t leave it like that. He should explain how the money has been spent”.
“Let the Attorney-General take it up and question him,” he added.
His comments come on the back of Felix Kwakye, who yesterday, July 18, revealed that documents show Ghana owes the National Cathedral contractor an additional $39 million, raising the total project cost to $97 million, far above the widely cited $58 million.
The Minister of State in Charge of Communication, addressing the media on Friday, July 18, 2025, stated, “Contrary to the widely held view that total payments and contributions to the National Cathedral project amount to $58 million, there is actually an additional outstanding payment of $39 million to the contractor.
When added, this brings the total cost incurred so far for the hole that sits at the site of the project to $97 million”.
Felix Kwakye added, “The above audit findings rock the very foundation of the project and the work of the Secretariat and raise serious questions about the use of public funds”.
The National Cathedral Ghana was registered limited by guarantee company. In view of that, the Attorney General has been directed to take legal steps… and we expect that to be done in the coming days,” he said.
Felix Kwakye further revealed that despite the damning findings contained in the Deloitte audit report, it did not cover the full scope of operations of the National Cathedral Secretariat and the project itself.
He revealed that the Auditor-General has therefore been requested to commission a forensic audit into the National Cathedral Project and the activities of the Secretariat.
Also, Kofi Bentil, the Vice President of IMANI Africa, has stated that history will show Clergymen caused Ghana $97 million and left a hole.
The IMANI vice president detailed that the Clergymen will never be forgotten and will never be forgiven, as history will show they supported wrong in the name of God and caused Ghana almost $100 million.
According to Kofi Bentil, he does not doubt that some of the Reverend Ministers were not corrupt and still respect them.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, July 19, Kofi Bentil, “We have great respect for our Reverend Ministers, but we said it before time. We said do not lend your bible, your customs, and scholars to these politicians who are embarking on an ill-faithed and godless journey, we said it will cause problems. I don’t have a doubt that some of the Reverend Ministers were not corrupt, I still respect them”.
“But for lending themselves to this, for not speaking truth to power, and not standing for what I believe they knew was not exactly right, they will never be forgotten, they will never be forgiven, history will show that at a point like this, they supported wrong this in the name of God and caused this country almost $100 million, broke down building and left with holes,” he lamented.
