Asiedu Nketia, the Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said that Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the minority leader now serves as a campaign manager for the NDC.

The NDC chairman urged the NPP not to change Afenyo-Markin as their leader in Parliament.

According to Asiedu Nketia, Afenyo Markin is making a significant contribution to the NDC’s course for the 2028 election.

He noted that the minority leader’s actions in Parliament and out of Parliament continue to sink the NPP deeper.

Speaking in an interview on Ambassador TV, Asiedu Nketia detailed, “I have to commend the NPP for keeping Afenyo Markin as their leader in Parliament. They should not change him because he is making a significant contribution to our course.

He now serves as a campaign manager for the NDC, and his continuous existence in that position will offer the 2028 elections to the NDC on a silver platter.

“All his actions are helping the course of the NDC while sinking the NPP. And so, we see him as our campaign manager. We are praying that they will keep him in his position”, he added.

The NDC Chairman added that the NPP made a mistake in replacing Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu with Afenyo-Markin, saying, “If you want to copy something, the conditions must be identical, so that after copying, you will get similar results. If your conditions are different, you must consult before copying; otherwise, you may achieve different results.

“For instance, Osei Kyei-Mensah, the former NPP Majority Leader, has come out to say that he was removed because we reshuffled our leaders. We changed our leaders because we identified some challenges; they copied it, and their change was for the worse,” he said.

Asiedu Nketia further noticed that the politics of the stronghold is gradually fading away.

He revealed that the NDC have learnt lessons that seats in the Ashanti region are not solely preserved for the NPP.

Asiedu Nketia added, “A lesson politicians have to learn is that if you are doing something and Ghanaians are silent, it is not because they are afraid of you. They will look at you, but when they get fed up with what you’re doing, they will drag you out”.

“The other lesson that both parties have learned is that the voters are not your sole preserve. The stronghold of politics is gradually fading out. What I saw in the Ashanti region is that the NPP thrived on misinformation, and so most of the radio stations in the region which defended the NDC were dealt with in the region.

All the stations were pushing the NPP agenda. They were using history and misinformation in the Ashanti Region, but this year, we collapsed that, and it did not work for them,” he disclosed while speaking to Ambassador TV.

“We have learnt lessons that seats in the Ashanti region are not the sole preserve of NPP. We now know that we can take any seat in the Ashanti Region,” he said.

In a related Afenyo-Markin news, he admitted the New Patriotic Party (NPP) made mistakes.

Afenyo Markin bemoaned that the NPP made mistakes, but it is not a broken party.

He rallied the NPP members to reclaim the spirit of unity, discipline and shared purpose.

According to Afenyo Markin, the NPP needs sober reflection and radical unity and a rebrand.

Speaking at the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Delegates Conference in Accra on Saturday, July 19, Afenyo Markin stated, “Let’s move with one voice. We’re in a season that demands sober reflection and radical unity. This is a time to rebuild, reconnect with the grassroots, re-engage with the base and reconnect with Ghanaians with a bold new vision for the future. With unity, we become a force; unity doesn’t mean uniformity, but loyalty to a shared purpose.

We must rebrand ourselves with better results and strong character. We must rebuild together, anchored in our values that no individual is bigger than the NPP, and that belief must reflect our language, tone, strategy and posture towards one another.

Internal discord, suspicions, and disunity have cost us. We made mistakes, but we’re not a broken party; we’re only a battle-tested party. We’re not a party of despair. Let’s end hate campaigns. We must reclaim the spirit of unity, discipline and shared purpose.”
