Banahene Agyekum, a journalist with GH One Television, has been assaulted by a police officer during the ongoing re-run of the parliamentary elections in Ablekuma North.
Michael Kpakpo Allotey, the Mayor of Accra, revealed he witnessed the incident and called for the said Police officer to be replaced because he has a hot temper.
Abraham Amaliba, a legal practitioner, has called for the Inspector General of Police to withdraw the officer..
He emphasised that the police have the power to arrest and not the power to beat people.
Amaliba further called on the IGP to withdraw the police officer immediately.
Also, former Presidential Staffer under the Akufo-Addo administration, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has condemned the assault.
According to Dennis Miracles Aboagye, who described the police officer as an NDC hoodlum in a police uniform.
He emphasised that in 2025, such crude policing cannot be entertained.
In a post on his Facebook page, Miracles Aboagye stated, “Such NDC Hoodlums in Police uniforms should be removed from the Polling stations without fail. This is 202,5 and such crude policing cannot be entertained. The physical attack on our media is becoming too much.
“This is how violence is bred. IGP should find this officer and take disciplinary action against him immediately! Completely shameful!g too much”.
NPP’s Nana Akua Owusu Afriyieh has garnered 32,512, and the NDC’s Ewurabena Aubynn has also garnered 32,464.
Some 6,839 voters are expected across the 19 polling stations to decide who will finally win the Ablekuma North parliamentary seat.
