Dr Tony Aidoo, a former Senior Presidential aide, has boldly stated that 1060 soldiers can put an end to the galamsey menace ravaging Ghana.
According to Dr Tony Aidoo, 1060 deployed soldiers can flush all these illegal miners out of Ghana’s water bodies and forests.
Speaking on JoyNews, Dr Tony Aidoo stated, “Using the military for internal security, like elections, is not advisable. The military can be used for more important things that are destroying our country”.
“We feed the soldiers, we clothe them, we put them in houses, what for? Why is illegal mining going on? Where is the military? That is what they should do”, he admonished.
Dr Tony Aidoo detailed, “Two months ago, I said and I am happy that my opinion was echoed by Dr Nyaho Tamakloe last week: all you need is to deploy two battalions, 1,000 men supported by two platoons of engineers’ regiments – 30, 30; 1,060 people – and you can flush all these illegal miners out of our water bodies and forests”.
“At every spot where you clear, you leave 50 men there. Three weeks, that’s all you need. And that deployment would ensure that these people will leave our waters and forests alone. The 50 men will be deployed for three weeks; that’s all you need. And after that, the galamseyers won’t come back because they wouldn’t know that you have moved out”, he boldly elaborated on his tactical execution.
Tony Aidoo warns Mahama
Dr Tony Aidoo, in that same interview, warned President John Mahama about the galamsey menace.
He sent a stern warning to the John Mahama-led government.
According to him, the goodwill that the people of Ghana gave the NDC is going to be dissipated due to Mahama’s inaction on galamsey and corruption issues.
He emphasised that Mahama must not think that Ghanaians do not care about the galamsey fight and warned that if he does not solve the galamsey issues, Ghanaians will vote the NDC out in 2028.
Speaking in an interview on Joy News on Thursday, July 17, Dr Tony Aidoo stated, “If the goodwill that the people of Ghana gave the NDC is going to be dissipated, it will be due to inaction on galamsey and corruption issues.
If the government is unable to solve the galamsey issue, I will be disappointed because it was an electoral promise, and you cannot take Ghanaians for a ride,” he stated.
He warned, “Akufo-Addo didn’t care, so President Mahama must not think that Ghanaians do not care about the fight. If he doesn’t solve the galamsey issues, the Ghanaian people will vote the NDC government out in 2028”.
“Six months is long enough to solve galamsey. The Blue Water Guards and the GoldBoard Taskforce are commendable policies, but he should stop the galamsey,” he added.
