The National Coordinator of the District Roads Improvement Programme (DRIP) Nii Lantey Vanderpuye has boldly told the former Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum that his record as Education Ministry won’t earn him the NPP flagbearer slot.
According to Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, Adutwum’s performance as education minister was 50-50.
He asserted that there are things Adutwum did right, but there are also a lot of things he did wrong.
Speaking on Channel One TV, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye explained, “It is good that Adutwum wants to contest the flagbearership. He has a very calm demeanour. But I don’t want him to premise his qualification on his performance at the Ministry of Education”.
“His performance is 50-50. There are things he did right, but there are also a lot of things he did wrong, which won’t give him the credibility he is seeking,” he added/
He further advised, “He should go out there as Adutwum, a servant of this country. ‘I have served. I may not have achieved a perfect score, but I have served in humility and respect.’ Then people will assess him on that basis”.
“If people have issues about your tenure as minister, they will use that to punish you,” Vanderpuye added.
His comments come after Yaw Osei Adutwum officially declared intention to run NPP flagbearership
Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum officially declared his intention to contest for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership for the 2028 election.
Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum had earlier teased his intent to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer position ahead of the 2028 general elections.
In a post on social media page X, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum stated, “In the silence of the noise, one man’s record speaks louder than mere campaign chants.
One man’s impact echoes across every region. One man’s vision is what Ghana needs for a total Ghanaian transformation. #TheAdutwumFactor,” he posted.
In the post he touted his achievements and outlined his vision for national transformation, positioning himself as the party’s best chance for electoral victory.
Adutwum’s post has since been deleted, the post, on Dr Adutwum’s official X page on Thursday night, featured a stylised image with the bold inscription: “The Adutwum Factor: The NPP’s surest bet for victory 2028.” And was accompanied by a poetic caption.
Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum in a video yesterday 18 June officially declared his intention by saying, “Eight years ago, I served as Deputy Minister and later as Minister for Education. During that period and beyond, I received countless praises from Ghanaians who appreciated the strides we made in the education sector”
“While in California, I had the opportunity to open schools and was recently honoured for my service. It was then that President Akufo-Addo invited me to come back home and contribute to the national agenda,” he added.
He declared, “As the party opens nominations for the flagbearership, I wish to announce that I will contest”
“I know you have faith in me, and I will not disappoint you. All is not lost; the future of Ghana is in our hands,” he said.
