Paul Adom-Otchere, the host of Good Evening Ghana has quizzed the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on why it cannot fly to America to interview former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
According to Adom-Otchere, Kissi Agyebeng, set a precedent when his office flew abroad to interview the brother of President John Mahama, Samuel Adam Mahama regarding the Airbus scandal.
The Ghanaian media personality asserted that the OSP should take a similar approach in Ofori-Atta’s case rather than depending on press conferences and public declarations.
The Special Prosecutor revealed that he has triggered a process for the issuance of an INTERPOL red notice, potentially subjecting Ken Ofori-Atta, to international arrest and extradition.
Speaking to the media on Monday, June 2, Kissi Agyebeng stated, “About 30 minutes before this brief, I triggered processes for the issuance of an INTERPOL red notice for the location and provisional arrest of Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta in whichever jurisdiction, pending extradition or his surrender”.
The Special Prosecutor rejected the former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s request for a virtual session.
According to Kissi Agyebeng, Ken Ofori-Atta must present himself physically to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
Kissi Agyebeng stated, “This office has always requested his attendance, and we have indicated clearly to him that we are unwilling to waive it. If we were amenable to taking any statement from Ken Ofori-Atta in absentia, we would have done so in February, and not waited till June 2, 2025.
“We want him here physically, and we insist on it. A suspect in a criminal investigation does not pick and choose how the investigative body conducts its investigations and the methods suitable to him and his convenience. We will not countenance this conduct, not in this case”, he added.
Ken Ofori-Atta has since been listed on Interpol’s official website as Wanted.
Speaking on his show Good Evening Ghana Paul Adom-Otchere stated, “If you were able to do this for somebody who didn’t hold public office, for somebody from whom we didn’t even know how much could be recovered, and you flew abroad to interview him, why can’t you do the same for Ken Ofori-Atta?
“You flew to London to interview Samuel Adam Mahama but now you’re telling us Ken Ofori-Atta has $58 million stuck in the National Cathedral issue that you’re trying to retrieve. If that’s the case, can’t you take a small fraction of that money to fly to America and interview him?”, Adom Otchere asked.
He added that it was unclear why the OSP, after assuring the public of the significant funds allegedly linked to Ofori-Atta, would not allocate resources to directly engage him where he is currently residing.
“You were able to fly to another country to speak to someone but you can’t do the same for a man you claim is linked to $58 million? I don’t understand.”
