A US-based woman has taken to social media to call out the Ghana Embassy in Washington DC over visa processing delays.
According to the Woman he has been left unable to travel home to attend her grandmother’s funeral.
Speaking in a viral video the woman stated, “My grandma just died in Jamaica. I am devastated. I want to go home for her funeral and I can’t because of the Ghanaian embassy in Washington, DC,” she said.
“Nobody answers the phone. Nobody answers an email, this is unacceptable, Ghana. This is unreasonable.”
“How is it you can accept people’s money, people who have a love and a genuine interest in visiting your country and you treat people like this?” I have a family emergency… and nobody has the courtesy to respond?”, she quizzed.
Also, a growing number of travellers are expressing concerns over delays and difficulties in obtaining visas from the Ghana Embassy in Washington, D.C. Complaints online indicate that issues range from prolonged processing times and limited communication channels to unexpected documentation requirements, all contributing to travel disruptions and heightened stress for applicants.
These challenges have raised calls for improved efficiency, clearer guidelines, and more responsive customer service to better support the needs of travellers planning to visit Ghana.
It will be recalled Ghana’s Embassy in Washington D.C. was reopened on Thursday, May 29, 2025, after closure over alleged corrupt practices by staff.
Meanwhile, some Ghanaians have reacted to the video by saying, “Ghana in the US, kindly do the needful. If I pay for a 15- 20 days service, I expect it within that range. We don’t like it when other embassies stress our people out, let’s not stress her too”.
“Do we Ghanaians ever complain about the heartbreak, cues and sometimes ride behaviour experienced at the US embassy?”, another stated.
One X user also asserted, “Don’t Ghanaians also suffer to getting their visas? Why are they crying it should be made easy for them to get?”.
One more user stated, “My Ghanaian sister also had a funeral in Ghana. She applied for a Ghana visa and after 8 weeks, they still ignored her. She had booked her flights in advance, hoping to get the visa on time. Well, she has not received her passport with the visa till today. The funeral is even over”.
