John Ntim Fordjour, the Member of Parliament for Assin South, has boldly stated that under President John Dramani Mahama foreign gay couple boldly desecrated Ghana’s national monuments.
His comments come after Photos of a gay couple kissing under Ghana’s Iconic Independence Arch have raised immense public backlash among the Ghanaian online community.
The bold act from the couple identified as Lue and Rue, both South Africans, at such a revered monument in a country where such activities are generally frowned upon has thrown many into a state of shock, with many describing it as a protest against attempts to pass an anti LGBTQ bill.
In a Twitter post on Thursday, June 26, Ntim Fordjour wrote, “Under Mahama & NDC, foreign gay couple boldly desecrate our national monuments: kiss under Independence Square flaunting Ghana flag. They’re emboldened to defy the dignity and sanctity of our rich Ghanaian values right before our eyes. We shall end this absurdity with the bill”.
He further added, “The President, Minister for Tourism, Diaspora Affairs Directorate at Jubilee House, National Security cannot be absolved from this disgraceful act of impunity”.
However, Sam Nartey George, the Ningo-Prampram Member of Parliament and Minister for Communication, has roared at the New Patriotic Party members for calling him out over gay couples’ viral photos at Ghana’s Iconic Independence Arch.
Sam George condemned the photos, describing the gay couples as two ‘useless’ individuals.
He stated, “I have seen numerous tags and posts about the abhorrent disrespect of our culture and values by two ‘useless’ individuals. The disrespect of our national symbols is despicable to say the least”.
Sam George further fired shots at the NPP for calling him and demanding action.
According to him, the NPP are a shameless lot, stating that they defended the immoral stance of former President Akufo-Addo then, and today you want to pontificate.
He stated on X, “However, I am shocked to see apologists of the NPP calling on me and demanding action. What a shameless lot! We are where we are today without a strict legislation on these ills because former President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, failed and blatantly refused to sign the Family Values Bill into law after Parliament of Ghana and the Courts had cleared the Bill.
You defended the immoral stance of President Akufo-Addo then and today you want to pontificate? How dare you!”.
He once again reiterated that the Family Values Bill has been resubmitted to parliament, “I have, along with my Colleagues in Parliament, resubmitted the Family Values Bill. It has gotten Mr. Speaker’s approval and should be laid for first reading any moment soon.
The values, morals and innocence of our children MUST be protected. I would demand that President John Dramani Mahama sign the Bill when we get it passed again. My position has NOT changed but I despite hypocrites.
Law enforcement must identify the two miscreants in the viral photos and apply the full rigours of existing laws on them”.
