Several lives have been lost following a tragic head-on collision between a VIP bus and a cargo truck on the Accra-Kumasi highway.
Reports suggest the tragic accident occurred on Wednesday, June 25, near Oframase, close to Nkawkaw in the Kwahu West Municipality.
The information gathered suggests a VIP bus with registration number GR-2399 collided with an oncoming cargo truck loaded with flour, leading to several fatalities and some bodies beyond identification.
The injured have been admitted to the Nkawkaw Holy Family Hospital and other nearby health facilities after personnel from the Ghana Police Service’s Motor Traffic and Transport Directorate (MTTD) and the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) responded swiftly to the scene.
The two vehicles have also been towed off the busy highway.
The official death toll is yet to be released by the authorities.
Kwahu West Municipal Fire Department and the Ghana Police Service are expected to issue an official statement on the accident.
Meanwhile, several road users have blamed the deteriorating state of the Accra-Kumasi highway as the contributing factor to the accident, citing that it is pitted with many potholes and the road has deteriorated.
