Prophet Kofi Oduro, the General Overseer of Alabaster International Ministries has fired shots at the newly introduced GH¢1 petroleum levy, commonly known as the “Dumsor Levy.”
The man of God quizzed if the person who created the energy sector mess would still remain in charge if Ghanaians paid the dumsor levy.
Speaking to his congregant on June 8, 2025, Prophet Kofi Oduro stated, “Your Excellency, good morning. If we pay the D-Levy, will the ECG bosses still be at post, even though they are causing financial loss to the state? Will the same people who created this mess remain in charge? I want to know”.
He further narrated how he paid GH¢30,000 in E-Levy charges after making a GH¢300,000 transfer.
“When they implemented the E-Levy, no one in this church paid it more than me. Because on behalf of the ministry, I paid GH¢30,000 as E-Levy when making a transfer of GH¢300,000 for cement.
“I am not part of those people who sit on the internet and speak nonsense about the E-Levy because I contributed to it. Don’t be angry when I come and ask what they used the money for because I am asking a responsible question”, he added.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has postponed the rollout of the Energy Sector Shortfall and Debt Repayment Levy from today June 9 to June 16, 2025.
The GRA move comes after they faced intense resistance from oil marketing companies.
The Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) raised concerns over the timing and potential impact on fuel prices and consumer burden.
COMAC in a letter signed condemned the timing and mode of communication, which it received at 8:00 am on Sunday, June 8.
“This approach is neither lawful nor operationally feasible… Issuing a backdated directive on a holiday and serving it on a weekend for next-day compliance borders on institutional ambush,” the statement read.
“We therefore wish to state unequivocally: COMAC and its members cannot and will not begin implementation of this levy from Monday, 9th June,” the letter emphasised.
“We are industry stakeholders, not bystanders, and we deserve better than Rambo-style directives in the middle of a weekend,” the statement concluded.
The GRA speaking on CITI News revealed, “In the spirit of cordiality and partnership. The Association has concerns with the 9 June implementation date. We have discussed with their leadership in the spirit of cordiality and partnership and have agreed a new start date of 16 June,” the GRA stated.
