A 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination(BECE) at Duapompo in the Ashanti Region has abandoned the exams to go work in a galamsey pit.
According to reports, the male BECE candidate chooses to make money quickly over education.
The information gathered suggests he duly registered for the external examination but failed to show up on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, the first day of the examination.
Evans Nkum, a TV3 journalist who visited the school stated, “We had a rather disturbing development from Duapompo MA JHS where we are told by one of the teachers that one of their candidates could not write the examination because apparently he left to do illegal mining.
When he was asked he said he was going to look for money. So he failed to sit for the BECE to do illegal mining”, he added.
Meanwhile, a pregnant student sitting for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) delivered a baby boy during her ICT paper.
According to reports, the incident happened on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.
The information gathered suggests the incident occurred at the Asenua Presbyterian Junior High School Examination Centre in Mamponteng, located in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
Reports suggest a policewoman escorting the candidate to the washroom noticed signs of distress, and she discovered that the student was already in labour.
Desmond Adjei a teacher at the examination centre revealed that the student was quickly moved to the headmaster’s office, where she successfully delivered a baby boy.
Both the mother and the baby boy have since been transported to Victory Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical attention.
603,328 candidates across the country are set to sit the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), scheduled from Wednesday, June 11, to Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
The 297,250 males and 306,078 females are the first batch of students seeking to benefit from the Free Senior High School (FSHS) Policy under the new government
