Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the finance minister has warned the newly inaugurated Board of Trustees of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) not to sell SSNIT assets to politicians.
It will be recalled the former SSNIT board proposed the sale of a 60% stake in four hotels, the La Palm Beach Hotel, Labadi Beach Hotel, Ridge Royal Hotel and Elmina Beach Hotel to Bryan Acheampong a former Agriculture Minister which caused a lot of brouhaha.
The finance minister noted that President Mahama will not accept the sale of SSNIT assets to politicians neither will he.
According to Ato Forson, he will be the first person to oppose the sale of SSNIT assets to politicians.
Speaking during the inauguration of the SSNIT board, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson stated, “I use the occasion to raise concerns about some past investment decisions and strongly advised: Please do not sell state assets to politicians.
The President will not accept it—and as your sector Minister, I will be the first to oppose it,” the minister stated.
He added, “We are prepared, united, and committed to ensure that the trust resources are managed with integrity and foresight”.
